2025 Aquatic Season Lifeguard and Swim Instructor Job Posting

Positions Available  for  Lifeguards & Lifeguard/Swim Instructors

The Town of Discovery Bay is currently seeking American Red Cross certified lifeguards and swim instructors, who are at least 16 years old, to work at the community center pool for the 2025 summer aquatic season. 

The positions are part-time and seasonal, and the hourly wages for swim instructors and lifeguards will range from $17.00 to $19.00. The  general aquatic season runs May through September, with pre-season trainings starting as early as mid-March. Applicants must be willing to work weekends, evening hours and holidays in addition to regular hours to fulfill their job and training duties. Current American Red Cross (ARC) lifeguard and CPR and first-aide certification are required at time of appointment. 

The Town of Discovery Bay will be offering blended ARC lifeguard-training courses in March 2025, at the Discovery Bay Community Center. However, successful completion does not guarantee employment. More information will be posted on the Town's website when dates/courses are confirmed.

The recruitment process will consist of:

·         Application Review - Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide will be reviewed.  

  • If you are successful in this initial screening process, your application will be reviewed for applicable education, experience, and/or training to ensure all minimum requirements have been met and to ensure all required materials have been submitted. 
  • Only those candidates with the most appropriate qualifications will be contacted by the hiring department for an interview. 

·         Interview - Applicants selected to  interview will meet with the  hiring department and may include other members from upper management. The interview will cover elements of the knowledge and abilities identified in the job description. 

·         Pre-employment Screenings - Applicants offered the position will be required to pass a TB screening, physical and drug test, fingerprinting via Livescan, and background check administered and paid by the District. Please note that anyone offered a position and in need of a school work permit, will need to have that approved and in place to continue with any next steps.   (This period generally takes about two weeks to complete.)

·         Orientation - Once applicants have passed all of the pre-employment requirements and have submitted all of their documents they will be scheduled for their first day of orientation and subsequent in-service trainings.

Only those candidates with the most appropriate qualifications will be contacted for an interview. 

Interviews will be scheduled weekly on either Tuesday or Thursday afternoons between 2:30pm and 4:30pm during the month of February. Selected candidates will be contacted to select from the available four slots for each of those afternoons.
